Action-rpg Steelrising was announced today during Nacon Direct. In development at Greedfall studio Spiders, the game takes place in an alternate version of Paris during the French Revolution, where the automaton army of King Louis XVI is terrorizing and suppressing the French people. As the main character Aegis, a robot in female form who serves as a bodyguard to Queen Marie-Antoinette, you will be fighting to “change the course of history.” You will do this by trying to find your creator and put an end to the massacres being carried out by Louis XIV’s own robot army. The main premise of the game is basically, “what if Louis XVI had been a tyrant” and used machines to stop the French Revolution in its early stages. When you move around the Parisian streets, there will be a sense of verticality as you will not just walk around on the streets. You will be able to climb up on a balcony, or even find a secret passage to another location. In this version of Paris, you will also find well-known monuments and others that no longer exist. Two recreations you will find in the game are the Grand Chatelet and the Tour du Temple - both of which were demolished. Fights will have fluidity, and Aegis’ weapons are integrated into her body - because she is a robot. Items you find while exploring can be used to make her more powerful, mobile, or durable. There are more than seven different weapons, which are actually families because you can find plenty more as you progress through the game. Each one will also have its own unique characteristics such as those for light combat, and others such as alchemical rifles for long-range attacks. You can also expect side quests that will “enhance the world,” and these will also allow you to find unique gear and items that tie into the quests. In the Nacon Direct video, if you head to the 19:25 mark, you can hear co-founder and president Jehanne Rousseau discuss the game for yourself. Steelrising is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Check out the teaser below.
