Square Enix has announced that Marvel’s Avengers players on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X version at no additional cost, when those next-gen versions arrive. The publisher did not specify a time limit for this program. Not only that, players will also be able to carry over their save files and progression across generations. Marvel’s Avengers will also support cross-generation multiplayer within the same console family. As for what’s going to be different about the next-gen versions of the game, Square Enix hasn’t revealed too many specifics just yet. It did confirm, however, that players on PS5 will be able to pick between two modes, one favours visuals, and other prioritises framerate (60fps target). It’s likely the same modes will exist on Xbox Series X.
Broadly, the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will also benefit from ray tracing, upgraded textures, “armour destruction,” and faster load times. Crystal Dynamics promised more details on those, as well as the PC version, closer to launch. Tomorrow, we’re getting a new look at co-op in Avengers as part of its first War Table livestream. Avengers is out September 4 on PC, PS4. Xbox One and Stadia.
